How to Plan a Wedding During Covid

covid 19 wedding planning tips

How to Plan a Wedding During Covid

First, remember that you’re not alone in this, as much as it sucks. So many couples are also having to cancel, postpone & rethink their dream weddings.

So its ok to be sad! Go, cry your eyes out.

But then read these tips on how to plan your wedding during Covid, whether you just got engaged or are having to make the hard choice of postponing to a safer time.

Just Engaged? Congrats! These tips are for you:

1 – Celebrate! Virtually (-;

Embrace this weird time and throw some virtual parties like a virtual engagement party, bridal shower, etc.

2 – Throw out everything you thought you knew about weddings

The industry is changing fast due to Covid and so are engaged couples wants and needs. Sit down and really think together what’s most important to YOU for getting married and do that.

3 – Get married now, throw a party later

If you just can’t wait to get married, elope now and throw a big party later on when its safer! Going to a courthouse or a public park or the top of a skyscraper to say your vows doesn’t make you any less married because 150 people didn’t watch you do it.

4 – Find a venue with outdoor space

No one really wants to be crammed inside with lots of other bodies right now, so choose an outdoor space. Put a tent on reserve if you’re worried about rain.

Getting married in Charleston? Check out our favorite Charleston wedding venues! Many of them have outdoor options.

5 – Hire a bomb ass wedding planner to help you out & take the stress off you

A wedding planner will be your new BFF in these times. I’m always team wedding planner anyway, but planning a wedding during Covid is a new level of stress and having a wedding planner take care of 90% of the work for you just sounds like a DREAM, don’t you think??

6 – Plan a micro wedding and go big on experiences for those guests

A lot of couples are starting to realize that having a micro wedding is the way to go. You invite a select few friends and family (anything less than 50 people really), you save a TON of money, and you can really have the actual wedding of your dreams!

7 – Check the CDC guidelines per State

Every State has different guidelines & rules for traveling so make sure you check! From what I’ve heard, Hawaii is currently the strictest, with no weddings going on at all and you have to take a Covid test 2 days before you depart and it has to be negative for you to even board the plane.

Apparently, Texas is 100% open & “back to normal”.

Very different…

Having to Postpone? Chin up, buttercup, these tips will help make wedding planning (again) a little easier:

1 – Be flexible with your new date

Fridays & Saturdays fill up FAST for wedding vendors, so the date you want to postpone to is likely already taken, so you have to have an open mind and be flexible with your new date.

Make sure your top vendors are available before commiting to ANY new date.

Discuss possible dates with your most important vendors before you make the change – it would suck to lose your dream photographer because they aren’t available for the new date!

2 – Consider a weekday wedding (Monday-Thursday)

You’ll probably be able to keep 100% of your vendors this way! Weekday weddings are becoming more and more popular because of Covid.

Your guests want to get away, they can work virtually from their hotel room now, and you’re more likely to not lose any deposits or have to pay any extra fees like you would on a new weekend date.

2 – Elope on your original date and throw a big party when its safer

Omg we’ve had SO MANY couples do this and it’s awesome!! They’ve all said at their big party that by eloping first, it took off so much stress and pressure.

3 – Send out evites or paper Change the Date cards

Once you pick a date (and new venue if you had to) make sure you let all of your guests know with a Change the Date card or evite! Keep everyone in the loop.

4 – Update your wedding insurance policy

And if you don’t have wedding insurance, get it. Read more about wedding insurance here!

5 – Rethink your details, especially if the season changed

Maybe you went from Fall to Spring or Summer to Winter, so sit down and rethink your wedding details. Pumpkins in April seem a little weird. Also, by keeping with the season, you’ll be able to save money on things like flowers.

6 – Take a deep breath, it will be ok!

Had to throw this one in here. It WILL be ok – you’re still getting married to the love of your life and that’s literally all that matters. Fuck the expectations and everyones opinions. You have each other (-:
