10 Tips for Choosing Your Engagement Photo Location

How to Decide On Your Engagement Photo Location

In today’s Engagement Photography Tips, we’re talking about choosing locations for your engagement session! Where you decide to have your photo shoot plays a HUGE role in everything else about the session.

The location you pick is going to set the tone for the entire shoot from what props to bring (if any), to what you’ll both wear, to even the color scheme of your outfits.

Keep in mind that choosing a location that is memorable and special to you both will create more emotional feelings in your images when you look back on them over the years!

A location on both your bucket lists

Come on, how cool would it be to jet set to a totally new place that you’ve both been dreaming of seeing together?!

This can be international or domestic, but sit down together and think of a place that you’ve both been dying to explore!

Your favorite bar or coffee shop

Sipping on a glass of champagne or whisky at your favorite bar or restaurant will help you loosen up for the shoot! Or maybe you’re like me and just need a shot of caffeine to perk up (-;

Doing your favorite activity

What better way to capture your personalities than to do something you love doing together? Be it hiking the Blue Ridge Mountains, exploring a historic downtown, visiting antique stores, biking around a resort, riding all the rides at Disney or enjoying the water front breeze on a swing.

Where you first met each other or significant location to your relationship

Whether your first meeting was in a lecture hall at your college, or fumbling for the door at the local coffee shop, going back to your beginnings makes for sentimental photos!

We also love when a couple chooses a place that already has a special meaning to them too.

Images with your pet

This tip is under locations because you have to make sure that if you want to include your pets, you choose a spot that is pet friendly!

We’re huge fans of this one because what better way to capture your new family than by including your beloved dog? We recommend a more casual outfit for this, so your pet doesn’t ruin your best outfit when they jump on you…because they will and we all know it!

Your favorite skyline

Your city is beautiful at any time of the year, and the skyline shares where you live now, a beautiful location that might change with time.

Ask us about travel rates to your city! This can definitely be a super casual or super glam outfit.

A downtown urban session

Fun and funky, pictures in alleyways or in otherwise undiscovered locations make for a more intimate view of the city. Downtown Charleston has some of the prettiest historic homes and alleyways!

Haley & Austin told us they wanted historic alleyways & St Philips Church in their photos…so we said “Say less, we know the spot for both of those!”

An amusement park or fair

Nothing says fun like the merry go round to go with your whirlwind romance! Your outfit should DEFINITELY reflect the whimsy of an amusement park!

A romantic beach

Flowy outfits are perfect for the beach as are hues of yellows & pink! If you match the sunset, that’s even better (-;

Seasonal

Catch the nuances of the seasons, including everything from a winter wonderland, to leaves of fall, to flowers in spring, to the lush, green summers in nearby beautiful fields and forests.
