Victoria Mansion

Whenever we travel I always have to tour an old house. I don’t know why I’m like this, I just love old houses & learning about the people who lived and worked in them. Plus, I’m always hoping to see a ghost.

We were in Portland, Maine for a few hours this summer before heading home from an engagement session and I found the Victoria Mansion! After scrolling through some photos on Instagram, I made Jay drive us over so we could tour it!

It was super interesting to learn that it was built as a summer home by a guy who was manager of 3 hotels in New Orleans before the Civil War (and during the war he was stuck in LA and couldnt leave) and only TWO families have ever lived in the home! The second family bought it in the 1890’s and they loved how it was decorated and painted and they hardly changed a damn thing. The house fell into foreclosure during the Great Depression & fell into disrepair but opened up as a house museum in 1941! 97% of the house is original, including paintings and furniture which is fricken INCREDIBLE.
