Katie & Jay’s Private Farm Wedding in Pennsylvania
When friends ask us to be their wedding photographers it always gives us the warm & fuzzies to be trusted with such an important day, but throw on a destination wedding and the pressure is really on! Jay & Jay have known each other for a few years and Jay lets Jay…ok confusing, Jacques lets John borrow his vintage cars for shoots all the time (at the time of this writing, we have one sitting in our driveway that he’s been letting John drive around for fun)!
I definitely felt like I got whiplash from turning my head all day when ever I heard someone call out “Katie” or “Katherine” (well for me, its Catherine, but when someones speaking, you don’t know which letter they’re using)!
Getting Ready
The entire wedding took place at Katie’s parent’s farm up in Pennsylvania. This was the house that she grew up in and it holds so many amazing memories for her. Plus, her horse Joker lives here and he was in the pasture behind them as they got married and we got to take some photos with him during sunset!
Katie got ready at the house while Jay got ready at her neighbor Pete’s house, which is still on her parents property up a small dirt road. Her family is very close to Pete and he helped Jay get ready!
Katie’s engagement stone was from her grandmothers engagement ring but the original ring that Jay proposed with came from Japan and Katie turned it into a bracelet that she wore! That’s a great idea…I should do something with the ring MY Jay originally proposed with. She also pinned a pendant to her bouquet that was gifted to her by Pete’s wife who sadly passed on. The symbol on this pendant is also branded on Joker!
1st Look & Portraits
Katie & Jay did a first look so that they could mingle at their cocktail hour (yay!). They included their dog, Diesel, in the photos and he was such a good boy!!
I have to talk about Jay’s style though. I love that he kept his mohawk and wore converse sneakers and SHARK SOCKS. He also rocked some sunnies and had his military medals on his jacket. He looked so badass. Just because a wedding is seen as a “formal” event doesnt mean you cant let your personality show and Jay didnt hold back!
Private Farm Wedding Ceremony
The ceremony took place on the front lawn of the house facing the beautiful Pennsylvania mountains. I had literal heart eyes.
Katie’s horse Joker was in the field while they said their vows & Diesel got to chill in the front row with her family.
Tented Backyard Wedding
Tented backyard weddings are quickly becoming one of my favorite ways to throw a reception! The cocktail hour was right outside the tent and drinks were served from a vintage red firetruck that Jay used to own that his friend now owns, who lives in NY, and drove it to the wedding! We took some photos of Katie & Jay with one of his vintage Defenders (we actually borrowed one of his white ones at our wedding so John could get some groom photos with it).
At the reception, each guest got a lucky horseshoe as a wedding favor and then danced the night away with glow sticks before we sent Katie & Jay off into the night with a sparkler exit!
