Yayayayayaaaaay!!! I can finally share our own wedding photos!! I’ve had to keep them under wraps because it was being featured on Martha Stewart Weddings
We had a very colorful wedding at Middleton Place with just 5 guests (+3 friends who played our ceremony music & watched the pups). Knowing Francesca & Blake of Pure Luxe Bride, I knew I could trust them to bring our wedding dreams to life. Im not very good at dreaming up concepts, so I pretty much told them I wanted lots of color, NOT blush (my dress was to be the only blush pink I wanted to see), a dash of midcentury modern & Disney. They nailed it.
Hidden Disney Details
Did you really think my wedding didnt have Disney details scattered throughout? Mwahahaaa
- My dress – OBVIOUSLY I wanted to pay homage to my girl Rapunzel, but you could say it looks a bit like Giselle’s dress from Enchanted too
- My hair – again, Punzie at play here. I told Ash from Ash & Co that I wanted a fishtail braid as a sort of nod to Rapunzel. She did a few different styles but when I showed Jay the more “fashionista” messy one he said it was his favorite and so thats what I went with!
- Tiny crown – I got a very small gold crown from Emma Katzka Bridal. I did hold up my actual Rapunzel crown for one photo but I wore the one that Emma made and it was PERFECT
- Antique pocket watch – my favorite classic Disney film is Peter Pan
- Star socks & earrings – another nod to Peter Pan (2nd star on the right)
- Necklace – my necklace was a rose gold pearl & 2 crystals with a bow on top…Minnie Mouse! I bought it a month prior to the wedding on Main Street at Magic Kingdom
- Hidden Mickeys on the cake – so this one wasnt planned by me but my cake artist knows me so well!
- Best Day Ever tank top – one of my favorite lines from Tangled is when Rapunzel just escapes the tower and says “Best.Day.Ever!” so I wore a tank top with that saying when I helped Jay get dressed.
Getting Ready
Jay and I chose to get ready in our 1940’s house in Park Circle. Its our first home that we bought together and we spent a lot of money and time redecorating it which was a decision we made early on so we knew we werent going rent an Air BnB or stay in a hotel downtown. We spent the ENTIRE day together – he had originally planned to spend the morning with my parents while I got my hair & makeup done but he ended up just hanging out with the dogs instead at home.
We helped each other get dressed and it was my favorite part of the whole day (besides the part where we got married!). I think y’all should do it. It was so fucking great.
The Ceremony
Technically our first look was us getting ready together, so when we got to Middleton we just hopped right into the ceremony! Falkor & Zelda were very overwhelmed so they weren’t able to participate in the ceremony like we had wanted (but luckily their 2nd dog mom was there to walk them around and tire them out for some portraits! Thanks Jess!).
Our friends Erik and Jaime (of Charleston Blonde), played our ceremony music on his guitar. Jay was in charge of picking those songs and he chose Blackbird by the Beatles for the processional and I Got My Mind Set on You by George Harrison for the recessional. Jaime ended up being a stand in guest to fill in the ceremony couches because my family ended up sitting on just one side!
Speaking of the couches…probably my favorite detail!! When we decided to invite my family I knew 2 things:
1. They would NOT stand around us. I didnt want anyone near me during the ceremony and I dont think it makes for pretty photos when people crowd around the couple during elopements.
2. I didnt want to see a chivari chair or a white folding chair.
Well we love vintage pieces and we love color so vintage couches & chairs seemed to be the way to go (-:
We asked our friend Cacky to marry us. She was one of our first Charleston brides and we became friends with her and her husband Tradd (and Tradd was our realtor). My mom came up during the ceremony to do an Irish hand fastening ceremony.
The Portraits
Having our portraits taken with the sheep at Middleton was very important to Jay. One of my favorite pictures is us laughing when we realized a sheep was trying to eat my bouquet stems (the photo up top!). It was nice to just wander around with Perry getting our photos taken as husband and wife. We have a giant ass canvas of us surrounded by sheep hanging up in our dining room, we have about 100 printed images, and we also have a 50 page wedding album!
The Decor
We had a little sweetheart table set up with flowers & an AMAZING cake from Delicious Desserts that Laney made from scratch for me. I do NOT like cake – but if I had to eat it, it would need to be funfetti cake, which is what she made for me! I wanted our photography logo to be on the cake, but just our silhouettes, because our logo is literally us! I love silhouettes so it made it sense to have it. But Laney surprised me by adding two Mickey heads on the back of the cake! I was so excited to see those!
We ate dinner at Poogans Porch and I had to transport the cake. It sat on the stand in between my legs and it survived the whole car ride UNTIL we pulled into the parking garage. It started to topple towards me and I had to shove my fingers into it to avoid getting cake all over myself. Its a fun story.
The flowers were gorgeous – Flora absolutely nailed my unicorn flower dreams and I was so sad when I had to get rid of my bouquet the morning we left for our honeymoon a week later.
Thanks to all of our amazing vendors who made our wedding dreams come true!
