Jewel Toned Fall Wedding in Charleston SC

Sami & Tyler’s Gorgeous Jewel Toned Fall Wedding at Magnolia Carriage House

Sami & Tyler were one of VERY FEW of our 2020 couples who didn’t have to postpone or reschedule their wedding due to Covid, so they were good to go with their jewel toned wedding at Magnolia as planned!

What is the most important thing to you for the wedding day?
That we are stress free and that we have fun!!

What was it about Magnolia that made you fall in love with it?
Tyler and I loved the mixture of water and trees. I’m a mountain girl and he’s a water guy and the openness, serenity, and the greenery felt perfect to us.

Why did you choose to get married in Charleston?
It’s where we got engaged! And when we were down there Tyler said “let’s just do it here” and I said “Ok!”.

Getting Ready

How did you feel the morning of your wedding?
Sami – I felt super calm and happy! I remember looking out the window at Marion Square and the sky was so blue with a little bit of clouds. It was so pretty, and I was super content.

Tyler – I felt exciting, happy, calm, present.

What was the most special moment of the day for you?
Sami – It’s super hard to beat our wedding party’s speeches but driving through the gardens in the golf cart with Tyler was special.

It was so beautiful, and it was so nice knowing everything was done and all we had to do next was get married and hang out at Magnolia with our friends and family for the night.

Tyler -Getting to the venue and seeing Sami for the first time.

First Look & Portraits

Did anything out of the ordinary/funny/crazy happen on the wedding day?Sami – Tyler and I saw each other!! I got up that morning, showered, got dressed, organized all my stuff, and then decided to go down to the hotel lobby and grab a cup of coffee. I get on the elevator, it stopped at the second floor, and who walks in? Tyler.

We both started laughing so hard. It’s very reflective of this wedding and 2020 to try super hard to not see each other, only to end up on the same elevator the morning of.

Tyler – SAME THING!

If you did a First Look, talk about it here! What made it special, how were you both feeling before & after it, would you recommend it to a friend, etc
Sami – We did, and I am SO happy we did!! Not only the day of, but the entire wedding week was so hectic. There is no downtime, and everything is so tightly scheduled. It was so nice to have not only a moment, but 30 minutes to ourselves.

Seeing Tyler prior to the ceremony put me at ease. We have so many one on one pictures without taking away from time with our friends and family. And it did not detract from walking down the aisle. It was still so special and if anything, I was a little more in the moment, because I wasn’t nervous at all!

Tyler – I liked getting the pictures out of the way so we had as much time as possible to celebrate with our friends! And it made it seem like the pictures weren’t hard or a big deal. It was just another thing to do before the wedding.

Outdoor Ceremony

What do you look forward to most about FINALLY being married? (-:
Sami – no more planning!! LOL! I am happy to have finally had our special day and just rest in the memories. We were so unsure this wedding was going to actually happen, I’m happy to not be stressing anymore. Success!

Tyler – The wedding planning is over.
(LOL we said the same thing)

What was your favorite detail of the day?
Sami – All the ceremony details! I couldn’t have asked for a better setting. When I saw it for the first time, I was so blown away. The trees, the moss, the water, the deck, the chairs, the champagne. It was unbelievably beautiful. Plus, hearing all the music Tyler and I had planned from the bridal sweet was awesome.

Tyler – The Spanish moss.

What made your wedding day special, unique or personalized to you as a couple?
Sami – Tyler and I are a pretty chill couple and I would say our wedding day reflected that. We didn’t have a lot of extras or fancy stuff. We just wanted it to be a great location, delicious food, lots of drinks, and great music. I would also say we chose Magnolia as our venue because it’s a good reflection of us both; the water mixed with the trees and the carriage house- very us.

Tyler – It was special because it was in Charleston and we focused on the party instead of all the traditional hang ups. We wanted to spend as much time as possible with our friends and family.

Cocktail Hour & Reception

What did you splurge on & what did you save on?
Sami – We splurged on the band for sure! Saved on decorations/extras. Who needs decor when you have Magnolia? Magnolia was our decor! Who needs a donut truck or a face painter when you have a dock and a dance floor!
Tyler – Splurged on band.

Whats the best advice you have for future couples planning their big day?
Sami – Try not to worry about everyone else!! Just plan the day for you and your partner and make sure to have fun with it.

Tyler – Don’t worry about the money, just enjoy the fact that you are going to have a day solely dedicated to you which doesn’t happen often in life. It will be worth it.

What did you love about working with us?
We are so happy we hired Catherine Anne Photography! What an amazing experience they gave us.

Katie is absolutely amazing!! When I began searching for wedding photographers I started on Instagram. Her aesthetic caught me right away. It was so fun and happy and vibrant. It was exactly what I wanted my wedding photos to be. Katie is a direct reflection of that aesthetic. My husband and I purchased one of her packages that included an engagement session. Tyler and I had never really done professional photos before and we are not “picture takers”. We are even pretty bad at Instagram.

Katie made us feel so comfortable and eased us into it. It even started to rain during the shoot and Katie made it work! Our pictures were unbelievably beautiful.

On the day of our wedding, Katie and Jay were rockstars. Taking pictures with them was so easy and so fun. We opted to do a first look and have all the posed photos done prior to the ceremony. So worth it!!

Katie and Jay worked quickly, kept us on schedule, and even corralled our crazy families. Even my husband, who despises taking pictures, afterward said, “Hey, that wasn’t so bad!!”. Tyler and I didn’t even realize Katie and Jay were taking photos during the cocktail hour and the reception. They’re awesome people, so we wouldn’t have minded if they were seen or heard, but they were neither seen nor heard (Lol!)!!

Katie sent me the photo gallery after the wedding and, oh my gosh. They are stunning, I’m dying. On top of all of this, our wedding party, our family, and even our guests have told us how great the photographers were. I have never really heard of that happening before.

Overall we had an amazing experience with Catherine Ann Photography and would recommend them to anyone. Thank you, Katie and Jay, for everything!
