Allie & Damir’s Destination Citrus Inspired Key West FL Wedding
Ive been internally screaming ever since Allie & Damir’s wedding day in Key West last month. First of all, I need y’all to know that I fucking love this girl. We instantly bonded over our first email and continued on with well over 30 more where we talked about our mutual love of Disney, colors, vintage things, YA novels, and a whole lot more.
Details & Getting Ready
When we arrived at Allie’s aunt’s house in Key West, the screaming began. We were greeted by a teal-ish wall & bright pink door with mid-century modern house numbers (we later learned it was painted by Damir as a thank you). When we walked in, there was her aunts 1950’s house. Allie then handed me all of her colorful details which were an orange shaped purse, orange earrings, heels with limes and ice cubes, and the most perfect custom designed by a friend wedding invitation set everrr. It even features a cat on it, and you’ll learn that these two love their cats. I even went to the Hemingway House and took lots of kitty pictures to put in their gallery!
Allie wasnt the only one with cool accessories; Damir wore a light blue suit to keep cool in the Florida heat with an orange tie and his pink socks had sharks! He also honored a friend of theirs who passed away by wearing his cufflinks.
The “Venue” & Ceremony
Getting married at her aunt’s house was a special choice: Allies older sister also got married on the property. Hurricane Irma did some damage to the yard where the ceremony was taking place, but her aunt did such a fabulous job restoring everything in time for the big day! They also placed huge importance on spending time with the people who matter most to them, which is why they only invited 35 friends and family members and were able to spend the entire weekend with everyone doing fun activities like a sailboat cruise the day before and brunch the day after. Candids with their people were super high on the “important” list!
The couple tied the knot under a tree in the front yard performed by Allie’s dad. The couple wrote their own vows and had everyone laughing really hard. Afterwards, all the guests went to the back of the house for apps & drinks while we stayed in the front yard for some couples portraits – my internal screams continued on when their film scans hit my inbox a few days ago because HELLO COLOR – before heading to the back to capture the rest of the evening in a very candid way.
Congrats Allie & Damir!! Definitely gotta do Disney one day together…perhaps a Dapper Day?!
What was the most memorable moment of the wedding day?
Seeing each other when Allie walked down the aisle.
What was your favorite detail of the day?
For Damir it was the orchids on the tree that we were married under and in the backyard. For Allie, it’s a tie between her beloved cats being a part of the day by being on her cake or her grandmother’s charm bracelet with her mom and aunt’s birthdays.
What was one way you saved money on your wedding day?
We had the event at Allie’s Aunt’s house which was a huge save for venue, decor, and florals.
What made your wedding day special & unique to you as a couple?
We’re both pretty unique people and knew we wanted our day to be something special. For us, it was a combination of a fun, retro inspired theme and having all of our favorite people in our favorite place at the same time.
What were some touches that made your wedding more personalized?
We picked all of the details and personal touches ourselves which made them that much sweeter and close to our hearts.
What advice would you give for future couples planning their big day? Good or bad or both!
Plan ahead! It’s never too early to have something planned or crossed off your to-do list. Plus the peace of mind and satisfaction in having it done is amaaaaaazing!
Is there anything you would change or do differently?
We wish we had done it in cooler weather! But since rain didn’t happen, we’re pretty darn pleased with the weather hand we were dealt. :)
