The choices were Salem & Newport. We had one full day to hang out together and were looking for somewhere fun to go. Newport, RI won out, mostly because we had gone to Salem my first time up to Boston, and on Halloween! It was also my second time to Salem. Newport was gorgeous and I would love to photograph a wedding at the Rosecliff mansion one day! *sigh* I swear I lived there in another time. Our first stop was the Isaac Bell house, a true architectural gem! From shingle style, to Japanese, to Colonial to French, it was truly a unique design, one that inspired one of the greatest architects, Frank Lloyd Wright. Sadly it’s in somewhat of a state of disrepair and they won’t be doing much more to fix this old beautiful home up. And typical of these old home museums…no indoor photography allowed )-:
Rosecliff mansion was quite possibly one of the most gorgeous homes I have ever laid eyes on. The grounds were very beautiful, and it had a stunning view overlooking the Atlantic ocean. I felt so peaceful staring out over the balcony into the vastness of the sea. It was so easy to picture a Jazz age lawn party taking place in the spacious backyard and once you entered the ballroom indoors, I could instantly imagine one of the many Victorian masquerade parties held at the estate. According to the tour, an average lady of the house would have to budget $700,000 for ONE summer season just to entertain while in Newport. That is INSANE. A Rosecliff mansion wedding is definitely on my must-photograph list (-;
