The Ritz-Carlton Sarasota A Luxury Wedding Venue

Candid, editorial couple portraits inside the courtyard during a Ritz-Carlton Sarasota wedding celebration

Okay, so The Ritz-Carlton Sarasota is GRAND. Like, properly grand.

It has that polished Florida luxury hotel feeling, with waterfront views, a classic ballroom, elegant indoor spaces, access to the beach club on Lido Beach, and enough formal architecture to make everything feel instantly dressed up. And the easy thing to assume with a venue like this is that the photos have to feel stiff or super traditional.

But that’s not how I see it at all! As a Sarasota wedding photographer who specializes in candid, electric and alive wedding photos, I’m always looking for the places where a venue can feel elevated and polished without losing the actual life of the day: the movement, the color, the guest energy, the fashion, the tiny blink-and-you-miss-it moments happening around the edges.

What I love about The Ritz-Carlton Sarasota as a wedding venue is that it gives you the fancy, elevated, black-tie-friendly backdrop without locking you into a gallery that feels overly posed or buttoned-up. You can absolutely have the beautiful portraits, the dramatic room shots, the waterfront ceremony photos, the fashion moments, etc.

But there’s still so much room for movement, personality, guest candids, cocktail hour chaos, and a reception that actually feels like a party!

  • Rain Backup Plan: They always reserve an appropriately sized indoor ballroom space in case of sudden Florida showers.

Wedding Portraits at The Ritz-Carlton Sarasota

The Ritz-Carlton Sarasota has plenty of polished portrait locations, but my favorite way to photograph a venue like this is when things stay moving.

The courtyard and surrounding architecture are perfect for portraits that feel elegant without getting frozen solid. A little walking, a little outfit movement, a little laughing between frames, and suddenly the whole thing feels much more like you actually lived inside the day instead of being placed carefully inside a very expensive diorama.

Which, listen. I love a pretty diorama. But I love real energy more.

For couples who want portraits that feel classic but still relaxed, this venue gives you a lot to work with!

Waterfront Ceremony Photos at The Ritz-Carlton Sarasota

One of the biggest reasons couples love The Ritz-Carlton Sarasota is the waterfront setting.

The bayfront lawn gives you that unmistakable Sarasota feeling: open sky, coastal light, water in the background, and a setting that feels elegant without being a full beach wedding. It’s especially beautiful for couples who want a Florida wedding that still feels refined and polished.

From a photography perspective, this is where light matters so much. I personally love preserving the color of the sky when ever I can, the texture in the dress, and the atmosphere of the waterfront instead of making everything so bright that the whole scene disappears into a white blur.

Florida light can be dramatic in the best way, and at a venue like this, I want the photos to actually hold onto that.

Cocktail Hour at The Ritz-Carlton Sarasota

Cocktail hour is where a Ritz-Carlton Sarasota wedding can really start to feel personal.

The venue gives you the elevated setting, but your people bring the whole thing to life. Guests hugging, drinks in hand, outfits doing their absolute most, people laughing too hard at a story, someone’s aunt becoming the unofficial mayor of cocktail hour within twelve minutes. Extremely important journalism, honestly.

This is one of my favorite parts of the day to photograph because it’s where the wedding starts feeling less like a timeline and more like a gathering.

For couples who care about their guests and don’t want the whole gallery to be just portraits of the two of them, cocktail hour coverage matters so much. These are the photos that show what it actually felt like to have everyone you love in one place.

Ritz-Carlton Sarasota Ballroom Reception Photos

The ballroom at The Ritz-Carlton Sarasota is classic, polished, and definitely built for a big reception moment.

But the way it’s photographed makes all the difference.

For a ballroom reception, I love mixing the warm ambient light of the room with direct flash, motion blur, and dance floor energy once the party gets going. That way, you still get the glow of the candles, the tables, the florals, the design, and all the pretty details your planner worked so hard on, but you also get the wild little champagne-sparkle blur of the actual party.

The dress flying. The packed dance floor. The champagne glasses clinking. The guests who fully committed to the bit. Everyone refusing to leave at the end of the night.

That’s the part that makes a formal ballroom feel alive!
