Emily & Ashley’s Nature Inspired Charleston Wedding
Its really the little details that count, and the little details added up at this nature inspired Charleston plantation wedding! Emily & Ashley love the outdoors and nature which is why they chose Magnolia Plantation as their venue over a location in California where they live. They got married under a tree with the Ashley River as their backdrop.
Emily’s parents own a house on Seabrook Island so it was really important to her that she got ready there – I mean, they have the PERFECT view of the marsh so I dont blame her for wanting to gaze out the windows while getting her makeup done!
But lets talk about the details. More specifically the AMAZING family crest that Emily & Ashley commissioned! They used it on so many things from their invitations to their wedding guest book. They put so much thought into the crest. The greenery is made up of magnolias (to represent South Carolina and Magnolia Plantation), lamb’s ear (Emily’s mother has planted this since Emily was a little girl), dogwood (to represent North Carolina), and coral (to symbolize their love for the coast). The animals featured include a kea, a cheetah, and a wolf pup. The Kea is a representation of the day they got engaged and started this new and exciting chapter. Ashley took Emily on an amazing excursion from Queenstown to Milford Sound, where he ultimately proposed on a fjord cruise under Sterling Falls. Along the way, they fell in love with the little keas – friendly green parrots that like to scurry around on the ground! The cheetah and wolf pup are symbolic of their relationship.
Also, Emilys mom made her veil, they had Emily’s adopted grandmother be the flowergirl (and the basket she carried was made by Emily’s grandmother), and Emily’s bolero was chosen because it reminded her of the iron work on so many gates downtown.
Ashley had a little bit of a rough start with his day – when the guys all arrived they asked us NOT to tell Emily that he almost had to go to the hospital because he cut his finger so badly that morning! Yikes! But they had him patched up…he just had some blood splatter on his shirt cuff! Which we of course shot because he was laughing about it by then and it does make for a good story down the road!
