Dreamy Rooftop Affair: a Wedding at Grand Bohemian Hotel, Charlotte NC
Some of my favorite things from Alex & Shaun’s wedding at the Grand Bohemian Hotel in Charlotte NC:
🌙 Alex’s DRESSSSS. Look at those custom sleeves!! And they’re removable
🌙 When Alex tried to pop the chilled Veuve, it was frozen and basically exploded icy slush everywhere and none of us were expecting that
🌙 Their dog Brick joined us for photos in a little puppy tuxedo!
🌙 The instrumental Disney songs that were played while guests mingled before & after the ceremony (and if I danced in place to them, thats no one elses business)
🌙 Their gorgeous ceremony arch
🌙 They used Alex’s grandparents vintage wedding champagne glasses to toast after cutting the cake
🌙 Sean’s surprise when he saw his grooms cake!

How did you feel the morning of your wedding?
Alex – anxious about the timeline and everything going according to plan! But so excited to see Shaun for first look and marry my best friend
Shaun – “happy and chill”
What was the most special moment of the day for you?
Seeing each other for the first time at first look! Also first dance. We didn’t expect that to be so special but we zoned everyone out and really enjoyed being in the moment with each other
What do you look forward to most about FINALLY being married? (-:
Not planning a wedding anymore… HA! But also focusing more on each other and our goals as a couple. And working on our house!
What was your favorite detail of the day?
Reading the letters we wrote to each other. Also Shaun got Alex pearls as a wedding gift and they were the most perfect and unexpected accessory to her awesome dress
Wedding Portraits at the Grand Bohemian Hotel
If you did a First Look, what made it special, how were you both feeling before & after it, would you recommend it to a friend, etc
We got a moment just the two of us to look at each other and fully appreciate what was happening. We were both very excited to see each other. Alex knew what Shaun was wearing but Shaun obviously hadn’t seen Alex’s dress yet. We really made sure we were in the moment – listened to what Katie and Jay said to do but couldn’t take our eyes off each other ! After it all kicked in that this was our wedding and our day. First look allows you to get soooo many couples portraits done and you can really enjoy cocktail hour with family and friends. 10/10 recommend.
What was something quirky or crazy that happened on the wedding day?
Everything was actually on time – did not expect it all to go so smoothly haha
What did you splurge on & what did you save on?
Splurged on just about everything…. We did a DJ not a band because we wanted a certain vibe for the music but we did get a drummer which was SO COOL. The people loved it.

What made your wedding day special, unique or personalized to you as a couple?
Our vows included some Star Wars references and our entrance into reception started with the Star Wars theme song. We also had some Disney songs play during ceremony (instrumentals) and dinner. Most importantly would be the timeline. We got all formal/traditional things done by 8:30 and spent the next 2.5 hours on the dance floor. Everyone loved it. Oh… and our doggy had a little tux. 😃
Whats the best advice you have for future couples planning their big day?
It’s easy to get lost in wedding planning and truly forget what is happening – this isn’t just a wedding – you are getting married!!! You’ve chosen to spend your lives together and that is something so, so special. All the little details may seem crucial but at the end of the day, you are marrying your best friend and that is really the greatest thing.
Is there anything you would change or do differently?
In a non-covid world we would have done a spring or fall date …. Summer in the south was brutal!

What did you love most about working with us?
Katie and Jay are the best choice for wedding day photography. They are so easy to talk to and they truly listen to your vision for your special day. Katie provides excellent feedback on what she thinks would make for the best photos and will help with posture, standing angle, and even hair in order to get the most perfect photo.
They also had the most detailed timeline and organized list of must have photos to ensure we captured everything we wanted. Both Katie and Jay know how to make you feel comfortable in front of the camera – you barely even realize you’re taking pictures because it starts to feel so natural. They’re simply the best 😃
