AUTUMN HALLOWEEN WEDDING INSPIRATION
Victorian Romance Halloween Wedding Inspiration
For this Halloween wedding post, I wanted to show how to do a Dark & Moody/Gothic Halloween wedding. Since we’re going for a spooky, almost classic Halloween look, dark colors are a must and the atmosphere needs to lend a spooky vibe as well.
This post is also filled with color ideas, venues & movie inspiration to help you visualize the dark & moody Halloween wedding of your dreams!
How to Choose Your Venue
- When searching for your venue, look into old dark buildings…bonus points if they’re rumored to be haunted! Places such as an old manor home, brick ruins, or something offbeat like an old industrial building, lighthouse or glass conservatory.
- The structure can also be HUGE and domineering. It can have turrets and towers, a steep roof line, pointed arched windows or doorways, leaded windows, full width porches.
- Perhaps even choose a city known for its spookiness like New Orleans, Charleston, Savannah, New York City, and Salem.
- Real Gothic wedding venues: The Greenbriar Hotel, the Biltmore, the Stanley Hotel, the Boston Public Library, Adare Manor in Ireland, House of the Seven Gables, Middleton Place, Castle Hill Inn, Southeast Lighthouse, Omni Mount Washington Resort, Oakland Cemetery, The Swan House, White Hall, Belcourt Castle, Bourbon Orleans Hotel, Lyndhurt Castle, Kellum Valley Farm, Thornwood Castle
Gothic Wedding Outfit Ideas
- Obviously black! You can soften the look with a tulle or satin dress and a crushed velvet jacket & loafers. Other dark and moody outfit colors are slate gray, powder blue and red.
- If you’re wearing a dress, you can dress the look up in so many ways such as with a fur wrap, lace sleeves, or an intricate design on the dress. Look for unique dress designs, layers, and ruffles. You can also wear a really long black veil or a cape.
- Look for stars & moons on shoes and dresses
- Suits can have skull cufflinks and a bowtie, and don’t count out a cool jacket pattern either; for those looking to elevate their look even further, Opal Formal Wear offers a fantastic selection of unique styles and accessories.
- Don’t be afraid to set a dress code for your guests. You can ask them to dress in all black or black tie attire for an elegant affair.
Colors & Design
- The colors you’ll want to use are dark reds, pinks, gold (the more elegant alternative to orange), black, plum, eggplant, emerald green, copper, deep blue, dark gray, royal purple & berry
- For the overall design use skulls (from cufflinks to earrings to candle holders) There ARE elegant ways to include skulls. Just don’t go super overboard! Other decor to use are old trunks, high back chairs, neon signs, melted dark color or black candles, candelabras, smoke machines, goblets, stars & moons, tarot cards (maybe as escort cards), moss, vintage rugs, old books, colored velvet pumpkins, and antlers
- Get creative with signature drinks served in goblets, skull shaped glassware or viles/tubes. Smoking drinks would be badass too! You can also include rock candy as a drink stirrer.
- I would DEFINITELY consider doing something really fun at the reception like a masquerade or costume party. You could also have a face painter come and do sugar skull designs on guests. Give out classic halloween candy as favors.
