Chatham Manor | Fredericksburg VA Wedding Photographer
Ahhhhh I love stumbling upon old homes to tour when we travel! We had a wedding in Pennsylvania this fall & because we had a REALLY bad experience with American Air a few weeks prior to this trip, we decided to drive to PA instead of using our plane tickets with them. Stick it to the man.
I was Googling Things to do in Fredericksburg VA and Chatham Manor came up. It reminded me of an English manor home so I begged Jay (ok, I TOLD HIM) to take me to tour it. Since it was the middle of the week we were pretty much the only ones there.
I was right in thinking it reminded me of an English country house; it was built in 1771 by an Englishman! During the Civil War it was used as a Union headquarter, soup kitchen, and hospital – there are still bloodstains on the floorboards.
I still felt like I was back in UK because of the exterior design of the house and how the gardens were laid out.
