Aliza & Andrew’s Lowndes Grove Fall Wedding

What was it about Lowndes Grove that made you fall in love with it?
What’s not to love about Lowndes Grove! We loved that it was right on the water with so many beautiful views. Aliza’s mother used to photograph old homes in Tennessee as a hobby (and won some competitions) and we knew she would love Lowndes if she were still with us.

Why did you choose to get married in Charleston?
We have always loved learning the history and charm of the Charleston area. As a couple, it was one of the first vacations we took alone together and we’ve been back many times since.

What are some of the unique items that you’ll be incorporating into your day?
We will have a lot of photos/ items from Aliza’s parent’s wedding – including wearing her mom’s wedding rings – because she is no longer with us.

Getting Ready

Lowndes Grove is one of my favorite venues in Charleston because both wedding parties can get ready here AND the light is AMAZING inside the house which is great for all of the getting ready photos!

Aliza’s details were so pretty & she wore her mother’s wedding rings!

How did you feel the morning of your wedding?
I felt relaxed and at ease because I knew that I was marrying the man of my dreams.

What was the most special moment of the day for you?
Doing first looks with Andrew and my dad. I loved seeing the look on their faces when they saw me for the first time. After that, it was really fun to get to spend the day with Andrew; I had really missed him!

What do you look forward to most about FINALLY being married? (-:
We are excited to get to take on life together. We have always done that, but it just holds different meaning as husband and wife. We hope to grow old as a couple that truly loves each other.

First Look + Portraits

Cue the crying – I love that Aliza’s dad wanted to help fix her dress for her first look!!

How do you want to feel when you look back on these photos in the years to come?
We want to feel the love just like the day we got married.

What was something quirky or crazy that happened on the wedding day?
Well I woke up with food poisoning and Andrew had a bad sunburn that we covered with makeup. All of the timing and details were absolutely perfect so I just had to make sure I recovered in time to walk down the aisle!

If you did a First Look, talk about it here! What made it special, how were you both feeling before & after it, would you recommend it to a friend, etc
We were originally so skeptical about doing a first look because it seemed like it took away from the moment. Once Katie explained the benefits, it made so much sense and we are so so glad that we did it. We had the most special moment with the first look and then we got to spend the entire day together. We got to enjoy so much couple time before the craziness of the wedding started! I can’t imagine being able to get as many photos of us and our bridal party if we hadn’t done a first look.

Lowndes Grove Wedding Ceremony

The couple got married on the lawn by their friend who is a Reverend! I even caught a tear slipping down Aliza’s cheek as she read her vows to Andrew and its one of my favorites from their day.

What made your wedding day special, unique or personalized to you as a couple?
Our ceremony was very special to us – note all the crying. We had a performance from one of my best friends and the officiant was a long time friend of ours. We truly had people around us that know us and love us so well.

Whats the best advice you have for future couples planning their big day?
Don’t stress! Look at lots of reviews and hire great people to take care of the big stuff (decor, timing, etc.). You won’t even remember the tiny details, so don’t stress about it!

The SUNSET on their wedding day was meant for them! The sky was a gorgeous purple to go with their purple & gold color scheme!
